ASEAN companies are gaining traction in Southeast Asia and further. The 100 largest companies from ASEAN countries by market capitalization have recently been compiled by the Nikkei Asian Review magazine. Here is the list of 100 leading businesses in the region, together with some details on their activities, market values and revenues.

The ranking tables were established upon companies headquartered in one of the ten ASEAN countries, by market capitalization as of 31 October 2014. Fourty-four companies had a market value that was higher than 10 Billion USD, and 24 had net profits above to 1 Billion USD.

Top sectors of ASEAN companies

In a quick overview of the rankings, finance dominate the top 20 ASEAN companies with 9 banks out of the top 20 companies, including 3 Singaporean banks in the top 5 companies which are also regional heavyweights.

  • DBS Group Holdings (Singapore): 2/100
  • Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (Singapore) – OCBC: 3/100
  • United Overseas Bank – UOB (Singapore): 5/100
  • Malayan Banking – Maybank (Malaysia): 6/100
  • Bank Central Asia – BCA (Indonesia): 7/100
  • Bank Rakyat Indonesia: 12/100
  • Public Bank (Malaysia): 13/100
  • Bank Mandiri (Indonesia): 15/100
  • Siam Commercial Bank (Thailand): 17/100

Communications companies are also well in represented with leaders in telecommunications from each of the four largest economies in the top 20.

Finance and communications companies are very present in the rest of the Top 50 and Top 100 companies, together with some other important sectors such as real estate, oil & gas, retail, agribusiness and utilities.

Top countries for ASEAN companies

In terms of where the companies are from, the top 20 is exclusively composed of companies from the 4 largest economies of ASEAN: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The whole Top 100 comprises only companies from the 6 largest economies of ASEAN: ASEAN-4 + Philippines and Vietnam.

The top 100 is composed of ASEAN-6 companies with the following numbers of companies from each country, together with the highest ranking company:
